San Antonio is unrecognizable to those of us that return home after many years. For those that have lived through these years of development, some have prospered, and others have struggled. This expansion binge has inconvenienced those that prospered and left those that struggle represent a segment of the population in poverty. We can look at data to show the effects of this growth on our citizens, but statistics will not speak as clearly as those that struggle every day. Who are the twenty percent in poverty in San Antonio? These folks are working. In some cases, they are working two or three jobs to make ends meet. I believe that twenty percent of our citizens in poverty is too great an economic loss for our city. Simply, a city growing at a pace that creates prosperity for some and not others is not a city destined to compete with top cities in the country. Unchecked growth comes with economic consequences, for the city and its citizens.
As your next mayor, I will propose a plan we may all agree on. A preview of this detailed plan will be sent as a press release and posted on this website no later than February 15, 2025. Why the delay? Between now and the last day to file for a place on the ballot, many candidates for mayor will be making promises to get your vote. If their plans for the future of San Antonio do not interest you, return to this page on the 15th.
