GROWTH
Strong families make for a strong economy. In 2023 San Antonio was the number one city in the country with 22,000 new residents. Population growth impacts housing which in San Antonio has resulted in decreased affordable housing. As mayor, Santos has a plan for growth that includes priority building of new affordable housing and increased existing housing availability that struggling residents can afford.
With that growth comes consideration and planning:
1. Public Safety
Maintaining a police force that meets the needs of a growing city is non-negotiable. Residents must feel safe in their homes and around the city. That includes ongoing efforts to keep violent criminals behind bars and illegal guns off the streets, and mental health resources to de-escalate situations when that is the best response.
2. Streets, Water and Drainage
No more running away from the needs of our residents, find what needs to be fixed and get it fixed. It is the business of the City of San Antonio to fix the streets so that potholes stop damaging our cars. Clearing drainage ditches and improving the system that moves flood waters.
3. City Services
Residents pay for services and deserve to get them from the City of San Antonio. Prompt response to 911 and 311 calls, safe and healthy neighborhoods where illegal dumping is dealt with promptly and governing that balances the needs for population growth and the need to grow San Antonio into a destination for businesses.
